The Public Trail is an independent publication covering America’s national parks and public lands: policy decisions, funding changes, land management disputes, fires, accidents, closures, and other events that shape what happens to these places and the people on them.

We do not report from a position of neutrality. Public land is held in common, and its condition depends in part on whether anyone is paying attention to what happens to it. This publication exists to do that.
